Saxdor 400 GTO

BoatLife's independent review of Saxdor's 40-foot performance cruiser: buyer fit, ownership reality, market comparisons, media context, cost planning and enquiry support in one place.

Overview

The fast, social 40-foot Saxdor.

The Saxdor 400 GTO is a highly anticipated flagship model that embodies performance and cruising efficiency. Built on a twin-stepped hull and designed for powerful outboard rigs, it brings Saxdor's performance DNA into a larger open cruiser format.

The full-beam wheelhouse, open social cockpit and fold-out terraces make the boat feel larger at rest, while the deep-V hull and outboard power keep it firmly in fast day-to-weekend territory.

Key Features

The details that define the 400 GTO.

These are the high-value features that change how the boat feels, performs and sells against other premium 40-foot adventure cruisers.

Twin-step deep-V hull

Designed to reduce drag at speed while maintaining control in following and beam seas. The result is a fast boat that still feels composed in open water.

Fold-out terraces

The cockpit expands at anchor into a social platform, giving the 400 GTO much more perceived beam and entertaining space than a conventional 40-footer.

Factory Simrad integration

Navigation, switching and systems can be specified cleanly from factory rather than patched together after delivery.

Open wheelhouse flow

Weather protection, side access and cockpit connection make the boat useful across mixed Australian harbour and coastal conditions.

Outboard performance

Twin or triple outboard configurations deliver simple service access, shallow draft and serious speed potential.

Real overnight utility

Best viewed as a premium day-to-weekend cruiser: comfortable for short stays, not a high-volume liveaboard platform.

FAQs

Questions from buyers.

Can it handle offshore boating or just calm water?

It can handle coastal and moderate offshore conditions well, but it is not a full offshore passagemaker. It is best for fast coastal cruising and day trips.

Do the side terraces get used much?

Yes, at anchor they make the cockpit feel much larger. They are mainly for when stopped, not while driving.

How much fuel does it actually use?

At normal cruising speeds around 22-28 knots, expect moderate to high fuel use for size. Fuel burn increases quickly at high speed.

What maintenance should I expect?

Main costs come from outboards, electronics, cleaning, seals and regular annual service planning. It is manageable, but not low maintenance.
